Sports volunteers needed

Introduction

If you were inspired by the volunteers at the London Olympics then here's your opportunity to become a sporting volunteer this summer in Chichester.

Chichester District Council's Sports Development Team is looking for volunteers to help at two of the city's most popular sporting events:

·       the Natures Way Foods Junior Aquathon on Saturday 20 July; and

·       the Natures Way Food Chichester Triathlon and Try-a-Tri races on Sunday 21 July.

Volunteers are needed for various roles throughout the two days. You could be required to:

1. register the athletes at Westgate Leisure Chichester before the start of the events;

2. lane count for the swimmers;

3. direct cyclists; or

4. hand out medals at the finish line.

Volunteers do not need any previous experience as they will be fully briefed before the event.  All volunteers will be fully briefed and will receive a goody bag including drinks, snacks and a t-shirt.

If you would like to volunteer at either of these events please contact Amy Chamberlain, the council's Sport Development Officer, on email at achamberlain@chichester.gov.uk or call 01243 534871.

Councillor Eileen Lintill, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Wellbeing and Community Services at Chichester District Council, says: "Volunteering is a very rewarding way to play a major part in the success of the day. These events are a big part of the local sporting calendar and are great fun whether you are taking part, helping out or as a spectator cheering everyone on."

Meanwhile entry is open if you would like to take part as a competitor. To find out more visit the council's website www.chichester.gov.uk, through the Westgate Leisure website www.westgateleisure.co.uk or call 01243 534857.
