Local people to help choose new public art in Chichester

Local residents are being given the chance to help choose a new work of public art in Chichester. Chichester District Council is holding a design and installation competition for an original piece of artwork for Chichester Canal Basin. Three artists have been shortlisted to submit ideas for the artwork - Mike Williams from East Sussex, Charles Normandale from East Hampshire and Steve Tomlinson from North Yorkshire.

Their ideas will be on display from today (Tuesday 18 December) until Thursday 24 January at Chichester Library. Questionnaires will be available for people to choose which one they would like to see design the new artwork.

Following the exhibition all three artists will be interviewed by a panel made up of respresentatives from Chichester District Council, local schools, the Canal Basin Trust and local residents' association, who will make the final selection.

The panel will take the public's views into consideration when making its choice. The successful artist will then be commissioned to make the work for the site and install it.

The artwork is being funded from 'Section 106' money, contributed by Linden Homes for a public artwork at the Canal Basin.
