Changes to bin collections over Christmas

This year there will be some changes to the waste and recycling collection days over the Christmas and New Year period. Please refer to the new-look 2012/2013 calendar that you will receive in the post during December. Collection dates will not change in the week leading up to Christmas (starting Monday 17 December). However, for some collections, bins will need to be put out a few days earlier during the Christmas week.

Collection days will also be changed for the week following New Year. Collection days will return to normal from Monday 7 January.

Mon 17 Dec      Sat 22 Dec      Mon 31 Dec

Tue 18 Dec      Mon 24 Dec      Wed 2 Jan

Wed 19 Dec      Thurs 27 Dec    Thurs 3 Jan

Thurs 20 Dec    Fri 28 Dec      Fri 4 Jan

Fri 21 Dec      Sat 29 Dec      Sat 5 Jan

Clinical waste collections will remain the same over Christmas and New Year, apart from collection days due on a bank holiday, when the following changes will take place:

·       the Tuesday 25 December (Christmas Day) collection will be on Saturday 22 December;

·       the Wednesday 26 December (Boxing Day) collection will be on Saturday 29 December; and,

·       the Tuesday 2 January 2013 (New Year's Day) collection will be on Saturday 5 January 2013.

The green bin composting service will stop over the Christmas and New Year period from Saturday 22 December. It will resume again on Monday 7 January 2013. Please consult your green waste calendar for further information.

Remember - Christmas cards, envelopes, and wrapping paper can all go into your burgundy wheeled bin for recycling. At the moment, plastic/foil paper cannot be recycled in the district.

Real Christmas trees, free from all tinsel and decorations, can be recycled. If you have subscribed to the green bin composting service, you can place it next to the green bin on the first collection day following the New Year.

If you have not signed up to the green bin composting service, real trees can be taken to the Household Waste and Recycling Sites at Westhampnett and Midhurst to be composted.

Alternatively, the tree will be collected and taken to the landfill if it is placed next to the black bin on the first waste collection day after the New Year.
