Stay safe this Christmas

With the Christmas party season about to enter full swing, Chichester District Council is urging everyone to have fun, know your limits and stay safe. "We want all of our residents and visitors to enjoy the holiday season. That's why we're encouraging everyone to know their limits, stay with friends or family, and arrange a licensed taxi ride home," says Cllr John Connor, Cabinet Member for Environment at Chichester District Council.

"Before you get to your party and start enjoying a few drinks, book a taxi for your return journey. Knowing that your journey home is planned and safe means you can spend time with friends and family without worrying.

"We've worked with the Crime Reduction Unit of the Home Office to help produce some top tips to enjoy the festive season and stay safe."

Top tips to consider before using a taxi are:

1.      make sure you have enough money for the journey.

2.      book a licensed taxi or wait at an official rank.

3.      if possible, share a taxi with a friend.

4.      check the vehicle has a council licence plate on the rear of the car. Look for a badge on the windscreen and check the driver is wearing his/her identification.

5.      keep your mobile phone with you at all times (and make sure it is charged up!).

6.      never get into an unmarked saloon car offering you a lift.

7.      don't get into a car if you feel unsafe for any reason.

8.      try to stay with your friends and don't wait in unlit areas.

The information is being released as part of the council's 'Countdown to Christmas' campaign. Its aim is to help residents prepare for the festive season - from events and activities, to important information. This can be found at
