Christmas light switch on events


To help get everyone in the festive spirit, we've got a roundup of the Christmas lights switch on events in the Chichester District.


Chichester will be turned into a winter wonderland, with activities taking place right through until Christmas. It starts with the Christmas lights being switched on at 7pm on Saturday 24 November from West Street (cathedral). The switch on will be followed by a grand firework display in West Street. East and South Streets will be closed to traffic from 4pm-8pm.

There will be street entertainment throughout the day, including performances from bands and choirs. Shops will be opening late, until 8pm and a Christmas shop window competition has also been arranged. For more information, please go to

Midhurst Town Council's annual Christmas Street Party

Friday 7 December, 6-9pm

The annual Christmas Street Party will take place between 6pm and 9pm in Church Hill / Red Lion Street.

There will also be a Christmas Market in the Spread Eagle's Jacobean Hall to tie in with late night shopping and the Town Council's Street Party.


A whole range of activities has been organised to celebrate the switching on of the Christmas lights in Petworth on Saturday 1 December. From 11am there will be stalls in the Leconfield Hall, Market Square, and Lombard Street. There will also be Christmas Tree Festivities in the United Reformed Church and a children's fun fair.

Music will start in Golden Square at 4pm. There will also be a magician and juggler.

From 5pm children can visit Father Christmas in his grotto and the lights will be switched on at 6.30pm by Lord Egremont and his granddaughter Esme.

Spirit FM will also be on hand to get the crowds into the festive spirit. Shops will be open late and a 'live' window competition will be taking place with awards to the winners in the evening. Christmas Carols will be performed by Petworth Town Band, St Mary's Church Choir, and other choirs. There will also be mince pies and mulled wine courtesy of the Co-operative.
