Countdown to Police and Crime Commissioner election


The countdown has begun to the election for the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner which will take place on Thursday 15 November.

For the first time ever, the public across England and Wales will elect Police and Crime Commissioners to represent them for policing for the next four years.

The Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner will be responsible for overseeing policing and community safety in Sussex on behalf of local residents. The Commissioner will hold the Chief Constable to account and will set the overall strategy for policing and crime reduction in the county.

Details of the candidates standing to be elected as the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner will be made available after 19 October.

Chichester District Council, which runs all elections locally, is now urging residents to return their completed voter registration forms to the council as soon as possible to ensure they don't miss out on their chance to vote. Applications to register to vote and for new postal votes must be received by the Electoral Registration Officer before 5pm on Wednesday 31 October 2012.

Also on 15 November, voters in the Midhurst area will be able to vote in a by-election to represent the Midhurst area on West Sussex County Council.
