Roller disco returns to Chichester after a 20 year break

A roller skate disco is returning to Chichester's Westgate Leisure Centre after a 20 year break. Westgate Leisure has teamed up with RocknRoller to launch Saturday afternoon sessions for all ages and abilities. Five dates have been confirmed for this year and there are plans to increase this to regular weekly events after Christmas.

here's a DJ, professional sound and lighting systems and organised games, dance competitions and activities. RocknRoller will provide full safety equipment and their experienced staff and marshals will be available to help with the fitting of pads and skates.

Two sessions have been organised - Mini Rollers and the Main Event. Mini Rollers is a one hour session designed especially for families with under 11s. It's a bit lighter and quieter than the Main Event session with the focus on getting everyone skating. Parents can either walk or skate with their 'mini rollers'.

The Main Event is a family orientated session for everyone. It's suitable for younger skaters who have basic skate skills, right through to experienced skate enthusiasts. Under 11s must be accompanied.

RocknRoller's Co-Founder, Paul Howells, says, "We're delighted to be launching in Chichester. The Westgate Leisure Centre in Chichester has fantastic facilities and the rink itself will be one of the largest and smoothest rinks we operate. We're all really looking forward to these first five weekends and are already planning our weekly return next year. An over 18s event is also being discussed."

"We are really excited to offer this new activity", says Kevin McCoy, Manager of Westgate Leisure.

"Most of us can remember taking part in roller skating discos when we were young. These sessions give us a chance to relive our youth and provide a new generation with the chance to try a new, fun activity.

"Roller skating has made a real come back in towns and cities across the country, and we are hoping that it will get the same reaction here in Chichester."

The Mini Rollers sessions will run from 4.15 until 5.15pm and the Main Event sessions will run from 6pm until 7.30pm., on the following dates:

·       Saturday 27 October (Halloween)

·       Saturday 10 November
