Be prepared for severe weather

Introduction

The Met Office has issued a warning of high winds and rain for Thursday night into Friday (15-16 December 2011) in the Chichester District area, with a risk of flooding.

Chichester District Council would like to remind residents who are in an area at risk of flooding, or are concerned about flooding in their area, to make sure they have sandbags ready. Sandbags can be purchased from a number of local retail outlets, and a full list can be found on the council's sandbags page www.chichester.gov.uk/sandbags. The council is currently adding the list of sandbag suppliers to its floodline telephone number (01243 534748), and this will be available soon.

In extreme cases a limited number of sandbags may be available to private residents. Priority will be given to the most vulnerable and in most cases there will be a charge.
Please check the Met Office severe weather warning page for full details as the warning may be upgraded: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/se_forecast_warnings.html.

If your property is flooded, please call 999. If the water is rising close to your property, for example it is on your doorstep, you can call the council's floodline on 01243 534748. Updates will be provided on the council's website (www.chichester.gov.uk) and Facebook and Twitter pages.
