Beat the bike thieves and security mark your bike

Introduction

Help to safeguard your bicycle by attending cycle marking sessions in Chichester. Chichester District Community Safety Partnership has set up the events. Cyclists will be able to have a unique registration number stenciled onto their bike frame and register them on a national online register of cycle owners. Security conscious pedal-pushers should go to the Market Cross on: * Monday 17 January between midday and 2pm; or * Tuesday 18 January between 8am and 10am.

All types of bicycle will be welcome at the sessions, including any highly-prized Christmas gifts.

Councillor Derek James, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety at Chichester District Council, says: "This bike-marking event offers a great opportunity for bike owners to get ahead of would-be thieves.

"Bikes can be very expensive and this gives owners peace of mind knowing that they will be reunited with their bike if it is stolen. They also know that thieves who are aware of these markings are unlikely to steal the bike in the first place."
