No changes to Christmas and New Year bin collection days

Introduction

This year, for the first time, there will be no change to Chichester District residents' bin collection day over Christmas and New Year.

"Christmas and New Year fall on the weekend this year. Our crews will be out working hard on the Monday and Tuesday bank holidays, which means no disruption to your normal waste and recycling collections," says Councillor John Connor, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at Chichester District Council. If in doubt, please refer to your latest collection day calendar.

"Please place your bins out by 7am on your normal collection day," adds Cllr Connor.

You can recycle Christmas cards, envelopes and wrapping paper by placing them in your recycling bin. At the moment, plastic/foil paper cannot be recycled.

If you have a real Christmas tree, and you subscribe to the green bin service, please place it next to the bin in the New Year to ensure it can be composted. Alternatively, you can take it to the Household Waste and Recycling Sites in Westhampnett or Midhurst.  Please ensure that all tinsel and decorations are removed.

It will also be collected and taken to landfill if you place it out next to your black waste bin on the first collection after Thursday 6 January 2011.
